Learn To Rejuvenate a Dewalt Rechargeable Battery
Rejuvenate your Dewalt rechargeable battery by using shock therapy to bring it back to life. Over time, Dewalt battery packs hold less and less of a full charge. Eventually, the batteries die out, holding no charge at all. Rejuvenating your Dewalt battery pack is challenging, but saves you money on a new Dewalt battery pack.
1.Locate and unscrew the small screws on the Dewalt battery pack. Set the screws aside for later reassembly.
2.Test each individual cell within the Dewalt battery pack with the battery tester. Use a marker to mark the cells that need to be rejuvenated.
3.Prepare the first "bad" cell for reconditioning by attaching or holding the black alligator clip to the negative end of the rechargeable cell.
4.Tap the positive end of the "bad" cell with the red alligator clamp one or two times and then hold for a maximum of 2 seconds.
5.Release all clamps from the rechargeable battery cell and retest the dewalt dw9071 battery with the battery charger to see if it has been fully charged.
6.Repeat the process on the same cell if necessary, until it is fully charged.
7.Repeat this process on all other "dead" battery cells within the Dewalt battery pack.
8.Replace the rejuvenated battery cells into the Dewalt battery pack case and screw it closed.
9.Place the rejuvenated Dewalt battery pack on the battery charger overnight.
Tips & Warnings
Use only on nickel metal hydride (nimh) and nickel cadmium (nicad) batteries.
Wear protective goggles, long-sleeve shirt and gloves during this process.
Handle with care, if mishandled the dewalt dc9096 battery can catch fire, leak acid or explode.
Recondition Old Dewalt Batteries
Reconditioning your dead Dewalt rechargeable tools is time-consuming, but well worth the effort. Within each Dewalt battery pack, a series of AA or C rechargeable batteries are linked together to create a larger rechargeable power source. Replacing the smaller batteries within the Dewalt battery pack is much less expensive than replacing the entire Dewalt battery pack.
1.Unscrew the small Phillips screws on the case and set them aside for later. Open the Dewalt case to reveal the batteries.
2.Copy down the connection pattern between the battery cells before you disassemble the entire battery pack. It is important to be precise so you achieve the correct polarity when reassembling the battery.
3.Use a soldering iron to remove the old cells from the leads attaching them together.
4.Purchase new rechargeable batteries at a local electronics or hardware store that match the old Dewalt batteries within the battery pack. Match both the size and type of batteries. Size C nickel cadmium (nicad) batteries should be substituted for new size C nicads.
5.Arrange the new batteries in the same pattern as the old Dewalt tool battery pack pattern.
6.Resolder the leads onto the new rechargeable batteries.
7.Replace the batteries back into the battery pack and screw the Dewalt case together.
8.Place the battery pack on the battery charger for a few hours and the Dewalt battery pack should be as good as new.
