Why The 18V Cordless Drill?
For DIY projects, a variety of tools could be needed to complete them. However, one tool that would be of great value regardless is the cordless drill. Using it is easy, it works quickly, and gets the job done. Almost every home improvement store sells cordless drills. The next question is, which cordless drill is the best? When it comes to versatility, the best one available is the 18v drill.
Projects
For enthusiasts, the amount of DIY projects to work on are endless. Examples include repairing a door lock, building a bathroom vanity cabinet, or assembling a backyard swing set. Nevertheless, handymen have fun completing all kinds of projects. An important feature for a cordless drill to have then is flexibility.
Certain projects require more power than others, but you still want a drill that has it when you need it. If you are putting together a children's swing set, you want it to be strong and stable to hold up over the long term. The 18v drill's turning power has more than enough torque. Combined with the proper socket bit, a swing set can be installed quickly and effectively.
In situations where power isn't as important, you can reduce torque output by adjusting the clutch setting. For example, not much torque is needed to place screws into a door lock. The 18v cordless drill comes with this type of flexibility.
Weight
Some might think that the more power a cordless drill has, the better. While power can come in handy when working on projects that require it, generally the more powerful drills are also heavier. Holding one up for a period of time can be tiring. What's great about 18v cordless drills is that their weight is ideal for the average person accustomed to physical work.
While the 12v or 14v cordless drills aren't as heavy, they also aren't as powerful. The 14v cordless drill used to be what the 18v is right now, the one that is used for all-purpose tasks. But the lithium-ion battery used in the new 18v drills is actually lighter than 14v drills. This gives it the best of both worlds, powerful and light weight.
Price
The price of a 18v cordless drill varies, depending of course on the battery technology and quality. They generally fall in the range of $75 - $200. You may find that a quality 18v cordless drill will be one of the most functional tools that you wil ever use.
